Prayer Chapel Window.
Installed by Russell & Dorrell this window is themed on the life of St Andrew, after whom the church is named. Matthew and Mark’s gospel in the New Testament note that, as Jesus walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he observed Simon and his brother Andrew fishing, and called them to follow him and become ‘fishers of men’. Andrew is said to have been martyred by crucifixion circa AD 60.
The window aptly features a boat, fishing nets, a star and a cross. A boat is often used as a symbol of both the church and the ecumenical movement. The star depicts the light of God for guidance and a sign of “Stella Maris”, Mary – Star of the Sea.
